CIVILIZATION DAWNED ON US (FOR AFRICANS) [VERSE III ‘3’]

CIVILIZATION DAWNED ON US

Yes, they came and arrived
With luxurious and wealth’s
To launch their faiths
And despoil our shrines
Was that a civilization?

O, they came and arrived
With mirrors and umbrellas
To reveal our dark skins and shield the sun
As substitute for our hunky men
Was that a civilization?

Ah! They came and arrived
With smile and wrapped kindness
To establish schools and hospitals
And depreciate our folktales and stories
Was that a civilization?

They came and arrived
With tattered and skimpy dresses
Their culture grew tall
To scorn and shun ‘Aso ofi’;
Aran; ‘Aso Adire’(old-time cloth)
Was that a civilization?

They came, and they arrived
With series of guns and gun-powders
They killed fellow humans not lions
To mock our skill in holding ‘Bajinatu(gun)’
Was that a civilization?
